In Memory of Nina Kiraly and Gyula Kiraly

With this site we wanted to preserve and make public the legacy of our dear parents Nina Kiraly, a Jaszai Mari award winning theater historian and and advocate of Eastern European theater and Gyula Kiraly, literary historian and expert on Dostoevsky and the Russian novel. Nina Kiraly and Gyula Kiraly created and left behind work that will continue to inspire researchers, professionals and that should stay part of the cultural landscape. We hope to see new generations get acquainted with their ideas. Both Nina and Gyula worked with much passion on what they thought of as their vocation. The quality of their work speaks for itself.

On the fb forum friends, colleagues and students will have the opportunity to continue a dialog they started during Nina and Gyula’s life, to share a memory or and idea or to pay their respect. Gyula used to crystallize his ideas and inspire his students through dialogs and reflections, Nina was known for her extreme communicative skills. Thanks to her work as a “theater ambassador” the Hungarian public got access to books and publications by theater’s greatest minds (Grotowski, Kott, Kantor) and could see works on stage by internationally acclaimed directors and designers. Their luminous presence will always be missed but their ideas and thoughts will live on in this memory space.
